SriLankan's FlySmiLes Extends Deadline to Transfer Skyward Points :

FlySmiLes, the new frequent flyer rewards programme of SriLankan Airlines , has extended the time period for members of Skywards, the airline's previous frequent flyer programme to transfer their points, up to August 15, 2008. SriLankan Airlines launched FlySmiLes in March this year as its partnership with Skywards ended. Existing Skywards Members were given a choice of transferring their points (known as Miles) in full or part to FlySmiLes. This has resulted in an explosion in the number of international airlines flying to India .

Skywards and Sky Surfers members who wish to transfer points can forward a request to Skywards or the nearest Emirates office on or before August 15. They can also forward the message using the feedback form on their respective Skywards accounts. When forwarding the request they need to indicate their FlySmiLes number. Miles transferred can be redeemed after November 1 this year. Members of Skywards who join FlySmiLes will be immediately placed in the same tier. e.g. Gold members will be placed as Gold members. There are different festival and season offers given out by the airliners, family packages or other packages are also rendered out.

FlySmiLes also provides a wide range of rewards, which include free air tickets to any of SriLankan's 41 destinations in 22 countries across Europe, the Middle East, South Asia and the Far East, and upgrades to Business Class. Becoming a member of FlySmiLes is simple. A passenger can log on to www.srilankan.aero or fill out a form at any SriLankan ticket office in Sri Lanka or overseas, visit the FlySmiLes Service Centre at Colombo's World Trade Centre, at Bandaranaike International Airport or on board flights. Persons who enroll and fly within six months of enrolment will earn 3000 bonus miles if travelling on Economy Class or 5000 bonus miles if travelling on Business Class.

FlySmiLes has three tiers of membership - Gold, Silver and Blue - according to the number of miles flown by each member. Every mile flown is credited as one FlySmiLes Mile. Passengers earning over 25,000 tier miles or flying a minimum of 20 sectors within a calendar year get the Silver membership while those with more than 50,000 tier miles or 40 sectors are given the Gold membership.

Silver members receive a 25 per cent bonus for every mile flown, and Gold members a whopping 50 per cent for every mile flown. All members are entitled to free air tickets, upgrades to Business Class, pre-assigned seating, and priority wait-listing. Gold and Silver members receive even more benefits including the use of the Palm Strip Lounge at Colombo's Bandaranaike International Airport, priority check-in, enhanced baggage allowances and family bonus. Gold members will be also be entitled to priority baggage delivery and fast track facility and will be entitled to take a guest to the lounge through out the network even when travelling on Economy Class.
