Etihad Airways to start operations on the Kolkata and Jaipur Route by 2009 End :

Etihad Airways which had decided to connect Abu Dhabi with Kolkata and Jaipur, earlier this year, will start operations on the route by 2009 end. The frequency of flights, operational from these two cities is yet to be finalised. "India is a very important market for Etihad and we plan to connect Indian cities to Abu Dhabi and further provide connections to the VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives) traffic to the US and UK," said Geert Boven, Executive Vice President, Sales and Service, Etihad Airways . Currently, the airline connects Abu Dhabi to Mumbai, New Delhi, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai and Kozhikode. Globally, the airline plans to start services to Almaty in Kazakhstan and Moscow in Russia by December this year. The airline currently flies to a total of 48 destinations across the globe and with addition of Almaty and Moscow the number of destinations served will reach 50. The frequency on Sydney route will be increased from seven flights a week to 11 flights a week by November 2008. By April 2009, the airline will include a daily service to Melbourne on its radar. Apart from this, the company will add new fleet, to expand to newer cities. It has placed a fresh order of 100 aircraft at the recently concluded Farnborough Air Show in UK. "The order consists of A380, A350, B787 and B777 with deliveries starting before 2012. Etihad Airlines has 12 more aircraft to come in from now up till 2011. The addition of fleet will help us achieve our target of 60 destinations by 2011 end," concluded Boven.
